About Jason Klass

Jason is an avid fly angler and backpacker. As a former fly fishing guide originally from Western New York, he moved to Colorado and became an early adopter of tenkara which perfectly suited the small, high altitude streams and lakes there. He has not fished a Western-style fly rod for trout since.

I enjoy your little videos, but apparently you have a lot of free time. Don’t you have anything you can fish for in the winter? I took my Amago rod to a local pond today for some bluegill fishing. Of course it was not real Tenkara fishing but the Tenkara rod is certainly a good tool for pan fish. The temperature is just above freezing and the fish are very slow and biting very gently. Often I could only see a slight movement of the line. Even so, with the sensitivity and control of the Tenkara rod I was able to catch several fish in a couple hours. One was over 9″, which is large for this area.

  2. I don’t currently have a Tenkara rod,but if Spock thinks it is logical ,that is good enough for me.I hope to got a Tenkara rod for the up coming fishing season.Tenkara seems to be fun ,simple and relaxing.Isn’t that what fishing is supposed to be any way?

    Hi Harold,
I don’t blog in my “free time”. I MAKE time to blog. I take is as seriously as a job. As for fishing, most of the places I go are frozen now. There are a few tailwaters that are open and I plan to get out this week.
