New Tenkara Demo Rod Program

Tenkara Rod Demo Program

I’m happy to announce that TenkaraTalk has teamed up with The Fiberglass Manifesto to offer a new tenkara loaner rod program for those thinking about getting into tenkara.  If you or anyone you know is curious about tenkara but want to try it before you buy it, now you can.  One of the big problems in tenkara today is that many people dismiss it before they even try it.  Tenkara rods are difficult to find locally so it’s not possible for most people to test cast one.  We hope this program will give more people easier access to tenkara rods so they can try one out for themselves and experience that “ah-ha” moment most people do the first time they hold one in their hands.

To start, we only have a few rods to loan out, but we will add more models as the program grows.  Of course, if anyone out there is feeling generous and wants to donate a rod to help spread the word about tenkara, we would be more than happy to accept!  For more information on the program or to sign up, click here.

About Jason Klass

Jason is an avid fly angler and backpacker. As a former fly fishing guide originally from Western New York, he moved to Colorado and became an early adopter of tenkara which perfectly suited the small, high altitude streams and lakes there. He has not fished a Western-style fly rod for trout since.

  1. Such a great idea. Once I try tenkara out and decide to buy my own rod I will have to try some out.

  2. I was hooked with my first few casts. This is a great idea!

  3. Jason, I will donate a TUSA Yamame if your interested (send me an email).

GREAT IDEA!! I think the first loaner ought to go to Lefty Kreh … a fad, my butt!! I have been lending rods to friends and people on the river for several months now. It is by far the best way to silence the detractors. That, and catching fish seems to be all the proof people need.

Thom, thank you. That is VERY generous of you. We need all the rods we can get. Today was the first day of the program and we’re already overextended so this is a big help and we really needed a Yamame. Your contribution will help out many future tenkara anglers and help promote the sport.

  6. Jason I would be willing to send you a couple rods to help out with your Demo Program. I have good stock right now on our 12′ and 13′ 7:3 rods and in May we will be getting more stock of some other lengths and actions and we could see if we can get you another then.

    Cheers,
