New Tenkara Book by April 2013!

David Dirks had a great idea for a book: put together a list of tenkara topics and get a range of tenkara anglers to give their opinions on them. And that’s exactly what the soon-to-be-released Tenkara Fly Fishing: Insights & Strategies is. You’ll recognize a lot of the names in this book (including yours truly) giving their tips, tricks, advice and opinions on all things tenkara. To give you a sneak peek, here is an outline of the book’s contents:

I recently read Tenkara: Radically Simple, Ultralight Fly Fishing by Kevin Kelleher, MD and Misako Ishimura and just wanted to post a few of my thoughts on it.
First off, this is the first book on Tenkara fly fishing written in English and represents a milestone for the Tenkara-mania that seems to be spreading across the U.S. At 133 pages (not the 160 pages Amazon states), it’s a quick read. I was so excited to read it that I finished it in less than 2 hours at a noisy Starbucks! Multiple lattes helped.
Overall, the book is very well written and I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting started in Tenkara. It covers everything from the history of Tenkara in Japan to the specifics of gear, terminal tackle, and casting techniques. If you’re already

Today, I got something very special in the mail–a copy of “Tenkara: Radically Simple, Ultralight Fly Fishing”, by Kevin C. Kelleher, MD and Misako Ishimura. Why is this book so special? For starters, it’s the first English Language book on Tenkara fly fishing.
Secondly, it is autographed and came with a personal letter from the co author, Dr. Kelleher. As far as I know, I now own the first autographed copy of the first ever English book on Tenkara fly fishing. I’m considering ordering another copy to actually read and preserving this one as a collector’s item (half kidding).
I’ve flipped through it and at 130 pages (with fairly large text and illustrations), I think I can get through it in a couple of hours. I’m going to try to find some time to read it this weekend. I’m really excited about this book as it is yet one more sign of the foothold Tenkara fly fishing has already taken in the West since Daniel Galhardo of Tenkara USA introduced it to the U.S. just a few years ago.
Stay tuned for my review…
